Thanks also to Lion Bill Guthrie for coming to our meeting and talking about Hearing and Service Dogs.
Thank you to all the members who went to Camp Friendship on Sunday, August 10th to help serve cookies, lemonade, and ice cream. Good time was had by all.
Thanks to the members who played golf at our annual golf outing. Only eight members showed up to golf but all had a good time. Several members came later for the meal. Thanks also to Lion Denny Massey for grilling the meats. Finally, a big thank you to Lions Mel and Renee Lahr for the use of their place for our party.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Lions Dean and Catherine Stenberg on the birth of
a son, Alex Verdell, on August 19th. He was born in Waconia and weighed
9lbs.-10 oz.
Also, congratulations to Lions Tom Fiecke and Karen Hill on their marriage on August 16th.
MEETINGS
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, September 4th at our meeting
place. Lions Debbie and Darren McALpine will be cooking and serving
the meal that night which will be at 7:00 P.M. Our business meeting
will be at 7:30 P.M. PDG Al Weise will be our guest speaker that
night. He will be speaking about the Eye Bank, Children's Eye Clinic,
and the MAC Center.
Our second meeting will be on Thursday, September 18th also at our meeting place. There will be a Board of Directors meeting at 6:30 P.M. At 7:00 P.M., there will be a meal cook and served by Lions Mike Main and Dan Judd. Our regular business meeting will follow at 7:30 P.M.
The first zone meeting of the year will take place on Monday, September 8th at the Cokato Country Club. Social will be at 6:30 P.M. with the meal at 7:00 and the meeting at 8:00 P.M. If you are attending, the club will pay for your meal. However, if you do not show up that night, you will have to reimburse the club for the cost of the meal.
MISSING
There is a reward (to be paid by the Lion President) on the whereabouts
of the gavel used at our club meetings. It disappeared at the last
H.L. Lions meeting on August 21st.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
On Saturday, September 13th, the 10th Annual Heel and Wheel for Hearing
and Service Dogs will take place at Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton
at 11:30 A.M. Any H.L. Lion members (along with family and friends)
interested in participating must sign up at our next meeting (on Sept.
4th). Let’s have a large turnout of members at this fundraiser.
On Sunday, September 28th, our club will be holding a pancake breakfast at the Howard Lake Legion from 8:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Lion Mike Main is the chair for this function. His committee includes Lions Duane Hass, Dan Judd, and Paul Schmitz. Any help that day will be greatly appreciated.
PDG Clay Storley and his wife Mary Ann will be our guest speakers at our October 2nd meeting.
If you have noticed, our club will be having cabinet members as guest speakers at our first meeting of each month. Please make every effort to attend these meetings.
BIRTHDAYS
Happy birthday to the following Howard Lake Lion members who will be
celebrating a birthday in September: Jeff Bickmann (13); Nancy Main (15);
and Judy Rohling (29).
