Thanks to Lions Dan Judd and Matt Grindeland for cooking and serving the meal at our August 2nd meeting and to Lion Jeff Bickmann for doing the same at our August 16th meeting.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, September 6th at our meeting place.  There will be a meal that night which will be at 7:00 P.M. with the business meeting to follow. The second meeting will take place on Thursday, September 20th.  A Board of Directors meeting will take place at 6:30 P.M with the business meeting to follow.  No one has volunteered to do the meal for this meeting.  If interested, please let Lion Steve know by the next meeting so it can be put in the H.L. Herald.

A community appreciation dinner sponsored by the Howard Lake Lions will be held on August 25th at Memorial Park in Howard Lake from 11:00 A.M until 2:00 P.M.  The purpose of this event is to say THANK YOU to the community of Howard Lake for their support of our club over the past 23 years. The meal will consist of pork chops, potatoes, baked beans, and Kool-Aid or coffee. WE WILL NEED HELP FROM ALL OUR MEMBERSHIP FOR THIS EVENT.  PLEASE BE AT MEMORIAL PARK BY NO LATER THAN 10:00 A.M. TO HELP SET UP AND HELP CLEAN UP AFTERWARDS.  Lion members who are on this committee are Mike Main (chairperson), Terry Thorson, Dan Judd, Mel Lahr, Tom Fiecke, and Vern Lemke.

Lion Matt Grindeland has organize a “members only” golf outing for our Lions Club on Saturday, September 8th at 9:00 A.M.  at the The Greens in Howard Lake.  You pay for the green fees and cart (the carts are have been reserved if you need one) plus an extra $5 for prizes.  Lion Matt will hand out the rules for this outing on that day.  We will once again meet over at Lions Mel & Renee Lahr’s residence afterwards for a barbecue and a potluck meal.  Also, you are to bring your own meat to be grilled.  If you are interested in golfing and have not signed up, you may do so by signing up by no later than our next meeting (Sept. 6th) or by contacting Lion LaNette (543-2610).  If no answer, please leave a message on her phone.

We are still taking orders for our new Lions shirts.  The cost of the shirts is as follows:  $18 for sizes S – XL; $20 for sizes XXL; and $21 for sizes XXXL.   You must pay for the shirt when ordering.  If interested in ordering a shirt but cannot attend one of our meetings, you can order one by mail by sending a check (payable to Howard Lake Lions) with your name and shirt size to Howard Lake Lions; P.O. Box 13; Howard Lake, MN  55349.

The 8th Annual Heel and Wheel for Hearing and Service Dogs Fundraiser will take place
on Saturday, September 15th at 11:30 A.M. in New Brighton.  If you are interested in participating in this fundraiser, please let us know by our next meeting (Sept. 6th).  We will be carpooling if there is enough interest.  Let’s have a large turnout of  our membership for it.

The next zone meeting will be here in Howard Lake on Tuesday, September 18th.  The social hour will be at 6:30 P.M., the meal at 7:30 with the meeting at 8:00.  Let’s have a large turnout of our membership for this meeting.

If you are not on this list, please pay your membership fees ($40) for 2001-02 ASAP.  You can pay them in one of two ways.  You can pay it in person by attending one of our meetings or you can mail your check (payable to the Howard Lake Lions) to: Howard Lake Lions Club; P.O. This coming October will be “Growth” month.  All members are strongly encouraged to bring in any prospective members to our October meetings to have them installed as new members.  Sponsors will receive an October Growth pin for their efforts.
