November 2000
Thanks to Lions Darrell and Nancy Main for the superb meal at our October 5th meeting and Lions Chris Bickmann and Steve Weber for the excellent meal at our October 19th meeting.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, November 2nd at our regular meeting place. Social hour is at 6:30 P.M. There will be a meal at 7:00 P.M. on this night. The meal will be cook and served by Lion Joyce Thorson. Following the meal, we will have our regular business meeting.
Our second meeting will take place on Thursday, November 16th at our regular meeting place. A Board of Directors meeting will take place at 6:30 P.M. So far, no one has volunteered to cook for this meeting. If interested, please contact Lion Steve Weber by the first meeting in November so it can be put in the Herald. If there is a meal, it will also be a meal at 7:00 P.M. with the meeting to follow. If there is no meal, the business meeting will be at 7:00 P.M. Our guest speaker that night will be PDG Lion Darrell Main. He will be talking about Hearing Dog and Leader Dog.
CORRECTION: At the Hearing and Service Dogs of Minnesota 7th Annual Heel and Wheel at Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton on September 10th, our club this year took 1st place with the most money raised (not the most Lions members participating). For our efforts, we will be receiving a travelling trophy. In addition to the trophy, our club won a free bowling party at the Park Tavern Lounge & Lanes in St. Louis Park. We will use this party for our annual bowling outing this winter. More details about this will be forthcoming in a future newsletter.
Donations this past month were made to: (1) the HLWW FFA club to help cover expenses for their trip to their national convention in Kentucky; (2) the city of Howard Lake towards the Halloween party sponsored by the H.L. Lioness; and (3) Howard Lake Junior Bowling Association to help cover sanction fees for this season.
At our board meeting in July, it was decided that a Howard Lake Lions expense receipt be used when charging any supplies to our Lions Club. Lion Treasurer Terry Thorson handed these slips out to all that attended the last meeting. These slips need to be filled out along with the store receipt. If you need these slips, please contact Lion Terry Thorson.
If you are one of those 11 members who have not paid your membership dues ($40), please do so by no later November 25th. You can pay them either by attending one of our two November meetings or mail them to P.O. Box 13; Howard Lake, MN 55349.
On Sunday, October 1st, our Lions club cleaned a one-mile stretch of Highway 12 west of Howard Lake. Those members who helped out that day include Lions Charles Engels (chair), Jack Oberpriller, Bernie Rohling, Judi Rohling, Tim Oberpriller, Denise Oberpriller, Terry Thorson, and Verdell Stenberg. A big thank you to all these members for their time and efforts.
Thanks to the following Lion members who helped cleaned our meeting place for the H.L. Lioness party on the 21st of October: Verdell Stenberg, Jack Oberpriller, Hazel Oberpriller, Judi Rohling, Bernie Rohling, Dan Judd, Charles Engels, and Darrell Main.
The Junior Class at HLWW High School will be holding a spaghetti dinner
at the H.L. Legion on Sunday, October 29th from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M.
Our Lions club will volunteer to help and oversee. Our club
is also invited to the dinner itself.
