MAY 1999

Thanks to Lions Jim Stellman and Glen Behrends for the excellent meal at our April 1st meeting.  Also, thanks to Lions Tammy Rienke and Bernie Rohling and Bernie's wife, Judy, on the superb meal at our April 15th meeting.

Thanks to the Howard Lake Lioness Club for judging the Easter Coloring Contest this year.  There were sixty-three entries this year of which over ninety percent were local.

A big thank you to all the Lions who helped out at the Easter Egg Hunt on April 3rd at Memorial Park.  Despite the cold and windy conditions, there were 180 kids who participated.  In total, there were 720 eggs that were spread out at the park with over 60 pounds of candy in those eggs, over 400 hot dogs were served, and 52 prize winners.  A special thank you goes to Lion Dan Oestreich who put in many hours in organizing this fun event.

Donations were made to the following: (1) two needy families; (2) the girls travelling softball teams; (3) the boys travelling baseball teams; (4) the After-Prom committee at HLWW High School; (4) to the Junior Class at HLWW for a boat trip after the Grand March on May 1st;  (5) to the Isanti Lions Club in honor of their 25th anniversary as a club; and (6) to Lions 5M Hearing (from the sale of the bicycle helmets during the Expo in March).

Just a reminder that membership dues for 1999-2000 are now due.  This must be done by no later than July 1st.  You can either pay them in person at one our meetings or you can send your check by mail to: Howard Lake Lions; P.O. Box 13; Howard Lake, MN  55349.

Our Lions club will once again be sponsoring a queen during Good Neighbor Days this year.  Also, our club will be sponsoring a medallion hunt during GND.  The person finding the medallion will win $240.  If that person is wearing a GND button, an additional $60 will be added making it a total of $300.

Our sympathies go out to Howard Lake Lioness Dorothy Novak on the death of her oldest son, Rian, who was killed in a car accident in California.

Our club's second annual golf outing this year will be on Saturday, July 17th at the Howard Lake Greens.  Please circle this date on your calendar.  More details in future newsletters.
