HOWARD LAKE LIONS GOLF TOURNAMENT
Our Lions club will be holding our 4th Annual 4-Player Scramble Golf
Tournament on Saturday, July 16th at The Greens in Howard Lake. It
will start at 8:00 A.M. with a shotgun start. In case of rain, it will
be held on July 23rd.
As in the past three years, there will be a pork chop dinner following the tournament.
There are two committees this year for the tournament. The first one will be the tournament committee. The members of this committee are Lions Steve Weber (chairperson), Denny Massey, and Catherine Stenberg. The second one will be the Food Committee. Members on this committee are Lions Tom Fiecke, Harvey Krohn, and Jeremy Kadlec. Both of these committees will have a short meeting following our next business meeting on May 5th.
Starting with this year’s tournament, the proceeds will go towards a charity, a cause, or a benefit. This year’s proceeds will go towards the family of Tim Jensen. Tim, a sophomore at HLWW High School, was critically injured in a car accident on March 31st. He is slowly improving every day now but has a long road of recovery ahead of him. With that in mind, the medical expenses that he and his family will incur will be huge. The proceeds will go toward his medical expenses.
In order to raise money for the family, there are some new twists to the tournament. First of all the entry fee has been raised to $50 per player or $200 per team. Second, various businesses and organizations in the area will sponsor each hole at The Greens. The cost for sponsoring a hole is $50.00. So far, twenty-five businesses and organizations have donated. Third, there will be a free-will offering at various locations on the course. Finally, there will be a silent auction before, during, and following the tournament.
There also will be contests on each hole this year, which will include a second hole-in-one contest on hole #3. There will be various donated prizes on each of the other seven holes.
Flyers for the tournament are now being done by the staff at the Herald-Journal (These are free of charge!). They should be ready to distribute this week. If interested in passing these out to various businesses in the area, please contact Lion Steve Weber at 543-3567 (H) or 3471 (W).
We are going to need lots of help from the membership to make this tournament
go this year.
