THANK YOU
Thank you to Lions Vern and Mardell Lemke for the superb meal at our April
4th meeting.  Also, a big thank you to Paul Fobbe and his SLAM students
(from HLWW High School) for the delicious meal at our April 18th meeting.

Thanks to all the Howard Lake Lions who helped out at this year's Easter Egg
hunt on March 30th at Memorial Park in Howard Lake.  A special thanks you to
Lions Duane Hass and Dan Oestreich for co-chairing the event.

Thank you to Lion Joyce Thorson for being the acting secretary at the March
18th meeting.

Thank you to Lions Tom Fiecke and Duane Hass for their hard work on putting
together the slate of officers for 2002-03.

Thanks to Lion Steve Weber for his work on organizing the bowling
party/casino trip on April 6th.  Twenty-nine people attended of which
sixteen was H.L. Lion members.

MEETINGS
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, May 2nd at our regular meeting place.
Lion Darrell Main will be cooking and serving the meal which will be at 6:30
P.M.  The meeting will take place at 7:30 P.M.

The second meeting of the month will be on Thursday, May 16th also at our
meeting place.  There will be a Board of Directors meeting at 6:30 P.M.  As
of now, no one has volunteered to cook for this meeting.  If interested,
please contact Lion Steve Weber by the May 4th meeting (so it can be put in
the Herald).  The business meeting will be at 7:00 P.M. (if no meal) and
7:30 P.M. (if there is a meal).

LIONS SHIRTS
Orders are still being taken for our new Lions shirts.  The cost of the
shirts are $18 (for sizes S - XL), $20 (for size 2XL), and $21 (for size
3XL).  The shirt must be paid for when ordering.  If interested, you can
order one by attending one of the upcoming meetings or by mail with your
name, size, and a check (payable to the Howard Lake Lions) and send it to:

EASTER EGG HUNT
Despite the cold and windy weather, over 180 kids participated in our annual
Easter Egg Hunt.
 
 
 

ZONE MEETING
Twelve members from our club attended the zone meeting at Maple Lake on
Thursday, April 11th.  The highlight of the evening was that five members of
our club will be on the District 5M-7 cabinet effective July 1st.  They are:
Lion Darrell Main (Leader Dog), Nancy Main (Peace Poster), Lion Steve Weber
(5m-7 Gram editor), Lion Terry Thorson (newly elected Zone II Chairman), and
Lion Mike Main (Region I Chairman).  Congratulations to these members.

Also, congratulations to Lions Duane Hass and LaNette Thorson who received
awards from the District Governor at the zone meeting.  Lion Duane received
an award for bringing in a member (Lion Harvey Krohn) during the October
Growth Month.  Lion LaNette received a 100% Secretary's award.   Lion
LaNette was also commended on the excellent job she does with the M & A's
she sends in each month.  In fact, her M & A will be used as a model for the
Spring School of Instruction.

ANNOUCEMENTS
Lion Hazel Oberpriller is now home resting comfortably.  However, she needs
to go to the Waconia Hospital for a shot every day.  Her family can help out
during the weekend.  Lion Joyce Thorson volunteered to take her to Waconia
during the weekdays.  Thanks Lion Joyce for helping out.

The Howard Lake Lions are cordially invited to the wedding of Dean Stenberg
and Catherine Brezina.  The wedding will take place on Saturday, May 4th at
2:30 P.M. at Shepherd of the Hill Presbyterian Church in Chaska.  The
reception and dance will take place at the New Prague Park Ballroom.

The Spring School of Instruction for our region will take place at STMA High
School on Wednesday, May 29th at 6:30 P.M.  All newly elected officers are
strongly encouraged to attend.
The 5M-7 District Awards Night will be at John P. Murzyn Hall in Columbia
Heights on Wednesday, June 19th.

Our Scholarship Committee will remain the same as last year.  They are Lions
Nancy Main, Mike Main, and Steve Weber.

Our next Adopt-a-Highway cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, April 27th.
Those interested in helping that day should meet in front of our meeting
place
at 10:00 A.M.

GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Howard Lake Lions will be sponsoring a golf tournament at the Howard
Lake Greens on Saturday, July 13th.  It will be an 18-hole four-person
scramble and it will be open to the public.  A committee for the golf
tournament was formed at the April 4th meeting.  The committee includes the
following Lion members: Steve Weber (chairman), Duane Hass, Dan Judd, Tom
Fiecke, Harvey Krohn, and Matt Grindeland.  The first committee meeting will
take place on Saturday, April 27th at our regular meeting place.  Any other
interested H.L. Lion members are encouraged to attend.

Also, our club will also have their "Members Only" tournament at The Greens
this season.  It is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, June 29th.  More
details will be available in next month's newsletter.

GOOD NEIGHBOR DAYS
The Good Neighbor Days committee will be holding two fundraisers in the next
two months.  The first one was a pancake breakfast on Sunday, April 21st at
the fire station.  Thanks to all the H.L. Lion members who helped out.

The second fundraiser will be a pre-GND celebration on Saturday, May 18th at
the fire station.  The purpose of these events is to promote Good Neighbor
Days and the 4-wheeler raffle.  This fundraiser will consist of a dinner
from 5:00 until 7:30 P.M. followed by a dance from 8:00 P.M. until midnight.
Singing Express will be providing the music.  Please be there to help at
this event.

DONATIONS
Donations were made to: (1) two members of our local FFA chapter at HLWW
High School to help cover expenses on a trip to Washington D.C.; and (2)
SLAM group at HLWW High School for new T-shirts (these shirts are given to
new students and staff at the beginning of each new school year).

BIRTHDAYS
Happy birthday to the following Howard Lake Lion members who will be
celebrating a birthday in May:  Roy Klugow (7); Charles Engels (12);
Hazel Oberpriller (14); Paul Schmitz (16); Curt Levang (17); and Renee Lahr
(23).
