A big thank you to the following members who helped with the labels of the May/June issues of the 5M-7 Gram: Nancy Main, Darrel Main, LaNette Thorson, Terry Thorson, Joyce Thorson, Denny Massey, Tom Sullivan, Vern Lemke, and Mardell Lemke.
A big thank you to all the Lions who helped out at the steak fry on May 17th. It was greatly appreciated.
DONATIONS
Our club made donations to: SLAM (for their shirts); two FFA members
to help cover expenses for their trip to Washington D.C. in order to attend
the Washington Leadership Conference from July 16-21; and to Queens Committee
for Good Neighbor Days (our club will also be sponsoring a candidate this
year).
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to Lion Dan Judd on being elected zone chairman during
our zone meeting in Montrose on April 28th.
MEETINGS
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, June 5th at our regular meeting
place. As of now, no member has volunteered to cook at this meeting.
If interested, please let Lion Steve know ASAP. If there is no meal,
the meeting will be at 7:00 PM. (If there is a meal, the meeting will be
at
7:30 PM.)
Our second meeting will be on Thursday, June 19th at our regular meeting place. There will be a Board of Directors meeting at 6:30 P.M. No H.L. Lion has volunteered to cook at this meeting. If interested, please let Lion Steve at the June 5th meeting. If there is no meal, the business meeting will take place at 7:00 P.M. (if there is a meal, the meeting will be at 7:30).
NOTE: Please check the H.L. Herald on June 2nd and 16th for the
possibility of meals on one or both meetings.
MEMBERSHIP DUES
A reminder that your membership fee is now due. It is currently $40.
You can pay it by attending one of our upcoming meetings or you can mail
it to: Howard Lake Lions; P.O. Box 13; Howard Lake, MN 55349.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
The District Awards Night will take place on Monday, June 16th at the
Monti Club in Monticello at 6:30 PM. If interested in attending,
please let Lion LaNette know ASAP.
The installation of officers for 2003-04 will take place on Thursday,
July 17th.
On Sunday, August 10th, our club will be helping at Camp Friendship
at 1:30 PM.
On Saturday, June 14th, there will be an open house in honor of Albert Oberpriller, son of Lion Tim Oberpriller, starting at 2:00 PM. Albert will be graduating from HLWW High School on June 1st. The address of the open house is 10911 10th Street SW. It is located just north of Albright’s Mill on County Road 5.
GOOD NEIGHBOR DAYS
The next GND meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 28th at 7:00 P.M.
at the fire hall. All members are strongly encouraged to attend.
We will be in need of chairpersons for various events during Good Neighbor
Days.
Our club will have a pancake breakfast at Lions Park on Saturday, June 20th from 6:00 until 8:00 AM. This will precede the fishing contest, which will be at 8:00. We will also be serving hot dogs following the fishing contest.
Ticket money from the 4-wheeler raffle must be turned in Lion President Tom Fiecke by no later than June 17th. If you have ticket money to turn in now, please give it to Lion Tom also.
GOLF TOURNAMENT NEWS
Our Lions club will be holding the 2nd Annual Scramble 4-Player Golf
Tournament on Saturday, July 12th at The Greens in Howard Lake. The
cost of the tournament will remain the same as last year ($40 per player/$160
per team). If you, or know of someone who would be interested
in putting a team together, you can request an entry form by contacting
Lion Steve Weber (chairman) by calling him at 320-543-3567 or by mail at
P.O. Box 22 – Howard lake, MN 55349. You can also download
the entry form of our club’s website (which is listed on top of the newsletter).
There will be a pork chop feed served by our Lions club following the tournament. We will also be serving brats during the tournament.
The committee for this tournament is as follows: Lions Steve Weber (chair), Duane Hass, Tom Fiecke, Dan Judd, Harvey Krohn, and Denny Massey. Our next committee meetings will take place immediately following both regular business meetings in June.
YOUTH CENTER NEWS
The Youth Center is now missing one 9 X 13-cake pan. If you or
know someone who might have it, please return the pan ASAP (no questions
asked).
LIONS SCHOLARSHIPS
The Lions Scholarship Committee has made their choices for the three
recipients of this year’s Lions’ scholarships. There were eleven
seniors at HLWW High School who applied for the scholarships. The
announcement of the recipients will be made during commencement exercises
at HLWW High School on Sunday, June 1st at 2:00 P.M. Lion Darrell
Main will be handing out the scholarships that day. Thank you to
the following Lion members who served on the committee this year: Steve
Weber, Nancy Main, and Debbie McAlpine.
5M-7 GRAM UPDATE
After reports of possibly having a June issue of the Gram published,
it was decided not to do one after all. Instead, on June 2nd at the
Legion, there will be a small party for those Lion members who helped Lion
Steve (Gram Editor) during the past year. It will be his way of saying
“THANK YOU” for all their help. Please be there by 7:00 PM.
BIRTHDAYS
Happy birthday to the following Howard Lake Lion members who will be
celebrating a birthday in June: Steve Weber (3); Ethel Roepke (8); and
LeRoy Bren (29).
