THANK YOU
Thank you to PDG Lion Darrell Main for installing our new officers
at our July 18th meeting. Also, thank you to all the officers who
served during the 2001-02 campaign. A special thank you goes to Lion Dan
Judd who served as our club President for the last two years.
A big thank you to the Golf Tournament Committee for all their many hours of hard work at making our 1st Annual H.L. Lions Golf Tournament a huge success. The members of the committee were Lions Steve Weber (tournament chairman), Duane Hass (food chairman), Dan Judd, Harvey Krohn, and Tom Fiecke. Also, thanks to Lions Tom Sullivan and Tim Oberpriller for their work on the hog roast. Thanks to the following members who came out on July 13th to help with the tournament: Lions Dennis Massey, Joyce Thorson, Dean Stenberg, Catherine Stenberg, Darrell Main, Denise Oberpriller, Terry Thorson, and Verdell Stenberg.
NEW PRESIDENT
Lion Tom Fiecke is our new club President. Let’s give him all
the support he needs to make his term in office a smooth one.
MEETINGS
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, August 1st at our regular meeting
place. No member has volunteered to cook and serve at this meeting.
If you are interested, please let Lion Steve know ASAP so it can be put
in next week’s Herald. If there is no meal, the business meeting
will take place at 7:00 P.M. and if there is a meal, it will be at 7:00
with the business meeting at 7:30 P.M
The second meeting will be on Thursday, August 15th also at our meeting place. A Board of Directors meeting will take place at 6:30 P.M. No one has volunteered to cook for this meeting either. MISSING ROASTERS
Our club owns three roasters that we have used for our meals and other
functions. As of now, we have only one up at our meeting place.
If you have them or know someone who does, PLEASE RETURN THEM BACK TO OUR
MEETING PLACE ASAP! (No questions asked!) Thank you.
GOLF TOURNAMENT
As was stated earlier in the newsletter, our 1st Annual H.L. Lions
Golf Tournament was a huge success. We had 62 golfers who entered
the tournament. We had teams from as far away as Minneapolis and
Chaska. We also had teams from the Maple Lake and Cokato Lions that
participated.
The Kleve Team took first place, the H.L. Lions (led by Lions Verdell and Dean Stenberg) took second place, and DJ’s (from Cokato) took third. In our special contest, the winners were as follows: Longest Drive on #2—Darren Zumach; Closest to the Pin on #3 --Lion Wayne Murphy (from the Cokato Lions); Longest Putt on #9—Joe Klenken. We did not have a golfer with a hole-in-one on #7. The golfer who was closest to the pin on that hole was none other that Lion Dan Judd (he stated that the money won on that hole was to be used for diapers!)
The tournament next year will be on Saturday, July 12, 2003 at The Greens in Howard Lake. We are hoping for bigger and better things next year!
“MEMBERS ONLY” GOLF TOURN.
Our club will be holding a “members only” 9-hole golf tournament at
The Greens on Saturday, August 17th at 9:30 A.M. The entry fee will
be $20 per golfer (subject to change). Please pay your entry fee
prior to August 17th. The format for this tournament has not been
set as of now. After golfing, we are all invited to Lions Melmer
and Renee Lahr’s home for a potluck meal. Members not golfing are also
invited for the meal. If you are interested in participating, you
can sign up by attending one of our August meetings. If you cannot
attend either August meeting, you can sign up by calling Lion Steve Weber
at 320-543-3567 or email him at: sdweber2687@hotmail.com.
5M-7 GRAM UPDATE
The same printer that does the H.L. Herald is now printing the July/August
issue of the 5M-7 Gram. They will also do the folding for us (that
will save us many hours of work). The only job that needs to be done
is putting the address labels (all 2,258 of them-give or take a few) on
the newsletters. We also need to sort them by zip codes. They
will be mailed out sometime next week.
A workday has been set for Saturday, July 27th at 9:30 A.M. Those
Lion members interested in helping Lion Steve (5M-7 Gram Editor) with the
newsletters, should meet by our meeting door at that time. If we
can have a large group of members helping, it should not take long at all.
Hope to see you there!
DONATIONS
Our club made a donation to the Flood Relief Association. Members
of this group are concerned citizens from the towns of Howard Lake, Waverly,
and Montrose. The purpose of this group is to help those people whose
homes were damaged or destroyed during our super storm back in late June.
HEEL AND WHEEL
The 9th Annual Heel and Wheel for Service Dogs of Minnesota will take
place on Saturday, September 14th at Long Lake Regional Park in New Brighton.
Details are in the upcoming issue of the 5M-7 Gram.
MEMBERSHIP DUES
Membership fees for 2002-03 is now due. The dues are $40 per
member. If you haven’t paid them, please do so ASAP. You can
pay them by attending one of our upcoming meetings or by mail to: Howard
