June  2000

Thanks to Lions Jason Mapes, Terry Thorson, Dan Judd, and Duane Hass for conducting our Chinese auction on May 4th.  Also, thanks to the club members that donated various items.  In fact, there was so much that was donated, that we will be having another Chinese auction in the near future.  The date for it will be forthcoming in a future newsletter.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, June 1stat our regular meeting place.  Social hour is at 6:30 P.M.  So far, no one has volunteered to cook for this meeting.  If interested in cooking, please contact Lion Steve Weber (543-3567) as soon as possible.  If there is no meal, the meeting will be at 7:00 P.M.  If there is a meal, the meeting will be at 7:30 P.M.  Our second meeting will take place on Thursday, June 15 at our regular meeting place.  A Board of Directors meeting will take place at 6:30 P.M.  No member has volunteered to cook for this meeting either.   If interested, please contact Lion Steve Weber so it can be put in the Herald.  If there is no meal, the regular business meeting will be at 7:00 P.M.  If there is a meal, the meeting will be at 7:30 P.M. with the meal at 7:00 P.M.

Due to the increase in international dues, our club’s membership dues will increase from $30 to $40 effective July 1st.  At our last Board of Director’s meeting, it was decided that any H.L. member that pays his or hers dues before July 1st, will only have to pay $30 this year.  In order to avoid the increase this year, all H.L. Lion members are strongly encouraged to pay their membership dues before July 1st. You can pay them by attending one of the meetings in the next couple of months or you can mail it to Box 13; Howard Lake, MN 55349.  If you wait after July 1st, you will have to pay $40.

The Howard Lake Lions 3rd annual golf tournament will be on Saturday, July 8th at The Greens in Howard Lake at 9:30 A.M.  The cost will be $20 per golfer.  The format will be the same as in the previous two years.  It will consist of two-player teams.  However, your partner will not be determined until after the golfing is done.  Names will be drawn from a container to determine your partner.  There will be a potluck meal following the golf at Lions Melmer and Renee Lahr’s residence (just south of the Greens).  There will also be drawings for various door prizes.  If interested in playing, please contact Lion Steve Weber (543-3567) by no later than June 30th.  Spouses and other family members plus any prospective members are also invited to play.

The Spring School of Instruction will take place on Wednesday, May 31st at St. Michael-Albertville High School.  All new officers are strongly encouraged to attend.  If attending, please be there by 6:30 P.M.

We are again going to have a float in the GND parade on Sunday, June 25th.  We will once again be distributing sno-cones to people along the parade route.  Any member willing to help make sno-cones on the float are asked to meet at the west end of the fair grounds by 12:30 P.M. on that Sunday.  Also, any youth willing to distribute the sno-cones will be very much appreciated.

Thanks to Lions Bernie and Judy Rohling for the excellent meal at our May 4th meeting and to Lion Denise and Tim Oberpriller for the superb meal at our May 18th meeting.

Donations were made to: (1) the Howard Lake Travelling league baseball teams for equipment and maintenance;  (2) HLWW School for the Quest Program;  and (3) to a student at HLWW High School to cover expenses for participating in the Minnesota Junior Select Basketball team.
