The Cokato and Howard Lake Lions will be holding a benefit auction at 4:00 P.M. for Chris Barth on Saturday, July 23rd. The consignment auction will take place at Block 18 in Howard Lake. Chris was very seriously injured in an accident at his home back in March. Besides the auction, there will be entertainment and a meal. Items that can sell and not sell are included in this newsletter plus a consignment auction contract. Lions Mike Main, Debbie McALpine, and Catherine Stenberg are co-chairing the H.L. side of this event.
The Minnesota Twins and the Lions of MD5M are teaming up to bring you Lions Day with the Twins on Sunday August 21st at 1:10 P.M. The Twins will be playing the Seattle Mariners that day. Tickets for the game can be purchased at a reduce rate with two dollars from each ticket going to the Minnesota Eye Bank. An order form is included with this newsletter.
HOWARD LAKE LIONS GOLF TOURNAMENT
Our Lions club will be holding our 4th Annual 4-Player Scramble Golf
Tournament on Saturday, July 16th at The Greens in Howard Lake. It
will start at 8:00 A.M. with a shotgun start. In case of rain, it will
be held on July 23rd.
As in the past three years, there will be a pork chop dinner following
the tournament.
There are two committees this year for the tournament. The first
one will be the tournament committee. The members of this committee
are Lions Steve Weber (chairperson), Denny Massey, and Catherine Stenberg.
The second one will be the Food Committee. Members on this committee
are Lions Tom Fiecke, Harvey Krohn, and Jeremy Kadlec. Both of these
committees will have a short meeting following our next business meeting
on June 2nd.
Starting with this year’s tournament, the proceeds will go towards a charity, a cause, or a benefit. This year’s proceeds will go towards the family of Tim Jensen. Tim, a sophomore at HLWW High School, was critically injured in a car accident on March 31st. He is slowly improving every day now but has a long road of recovery ahead of him. With that in mind, the medical expenses that he and his family will incur will be huge. The proceeds will go toward his medical expenses.
In order to raise money for the family, there are some new twists to the tournament. First of all the entry fee has been raised to $50 per player or $200 per team. Second, various businesses and organizations in the area will sponsor each hole at The Greens. The cost for sponsoring a hole is $50.00. So far, twenty-five businesses and organizations have donated. Third, there will be a free-will offering at various locations on the course. Finally, there will be a silent auction before, during, and following the tournament.
Speaking of silent auction, if you or know of someone that have items that they would like to be donated towards the silent auction, please let Lion Steve know ASAP.
There also will be contests on each hole this year, which will include a second hole-in-one contest on hole #3. There will be various donated prizes on each of the other seven holes.
Flyers for the tournament are now being done by the staff at the Herald-Journal (These are free of charge!). They should be ready to distribute this week. If interested in passing these out to various businesses in the area, please contact Lion Steve Weber at 543-3567 (H) or 3471 (W). The signs that will show the sponsors are also being done by the Herald-Journal free of charge.
We are going to need lots of help from the membership to make this tournament go this year.
