DONATIONS
A donation was made to the Howard Lake traveling softball teams.
CONGRATULATIONS
Congratulations to the Howard Lake Lions Club on finishing first in
the 2002-03 Governor’s Contest in the division with over 49 members!
INSTALLATION NIGHT
Our club will be having only one meeting this month due to the Fourth
of July holiday. The one meeting will be held on Thursday, July 17th
which will also be our Installation Night. The social hour will be
at 6:30 P.M.
We will be having a steak fry at 7:00 P.M. that night. All members and their spouses or significant others are all invited. If you wish to attend, please let Lion Darrel Main know ASAP so he knows how many steaks that need to be done. His phone number is 543-3029.
Following the meal and a short business meeting, PDG Lion Steve “Fuzzy” Halseth will be performing the installation of the 2003-04 officers. All new officers are strongly urged to attend.
Also that night, we will have a member from the Howard Lake Police Dept. as a guest speaker along with his K-9 companion.
MEMBERSHIP DUES
A reminder that your membership fee must be paid by July 1st. It is
currently $40. You can pay mailing it to: Howard Lake Lions; P.O.
Box 13; Howard Lake, MN 55349.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
On Sunday, August 10th, our club will be helping at Camp Friendship
at 1:30 PM. We will be needing at least five to ten members to help
on that day. We will serving approximately 120 people.
Our club will be holding its own “membership” tournament at The Greens on August 23rd;
Our Lions’ club will be putting an ad in the Fire Relief Association 2004 calendar with the theme being “Fire Prevention.”
Our club will be purchasing five Lions’ signs to be put on the outskirts of Howard Lake.
GOOD NEIGHBOR DAYS
Thanks to all the members of the Howard Lake Lions who helped out during
Good Neighbor Days in June. It was nice to see a large number of
members helping out.
Thanks to Lion Harvey Krohn for decorating our float for the Good Neighbor Days parade and to the members who made sno cones during the parade.
GOLF TOURNAMENT NEWS
Our Lions club will be holding the 2nd Annual Scramble 4-Player Golf
Tournament on Saturday, July 12th at The Greens in Howard Lake. The
cost of the tournament will remain the same as last year ($40 per player/$160
per team). If you, or know of someone who would be interested
in putting a team together, you can request an entry form by contacting
Lion Steve Weber (chairman) by calling him at 320-543-3567 or by mail at
P.O. Box 22 – Howard Lake, MN 55349. You can also download
the entry form of our club’s website (which is listed on top of the newsletter).
There is an additional prize for the hole-in-one contest on hole #7 this year. The first golfer to have a hole-in-one on #7 will also receive a brand new golf cart courtesy of The Greens.
There will be a pork chop feed served by our Lions club following the tournament. We will also be serving brats during the tournament.
The committee for this tournament is as follows: Lions Steve Weber (chair), Duane Hass, Tom Fiecke, Dan Judd, Harvey Krohn, and Denny Massey. Our next committee meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 1st, at a site TBA.
LIONS SCHOLARSHIPS
The Lions Scholarship Committee has made their choices for the three
recipients of this year’s Lions’ scholarships. They are Amber Uecker, David
Pettit, and Tom Bobrowske. Thank you to Lion Darrell Main for handing
out the scholarships that day. Also, thank you to the following Lion
members who served on the committee this year: Steve Weber, Nancy Main,
and Debbie McAlpine.
BIRTHDAYS
Happy birthday to the following Howard Lake Lion members who will be
celebrating a birthday in July: Brian McIntosh (1); Cathy Rufer (16); Welton
Zander (20); Donald Danford (22); and Debbie McALpine (24).
