GOVERNORS NIGHT/CHRISTMAS PARTY
Thanks to all the members who attended our Governor’s night/Christmas party. Special thanks to Lions Gloria Wheeler, Linda Amman, and Cathy Rufer on decorating our meeting place on that night.  Among the dignitaries in attendance were District Governor Al Roberge and his wife Molly, Vice-District Governor Gary Johnson and his wife Marlene, Region I chairman Lee Kaspar and his wife Marlene, and Zone II chairman Wayne Murphy.

The District Governor also handed out awards to H.L. Lion President Dan Judd and Lion Secretary LaNette Thorson.  There was also a special present given to Lion President Dan Judd by the District Governor.  The present was his gavel that was “lost” at our last meeting in November.  To say the least, Lion Dan was pleased to have it back and promised to keep a better eye on it from now on (We all hope so!).

Thanks to Santa Claus (aka Lion Denny Frey) for making a special appearance and handing out gifts at our Christmas party.

The highlight of the evening was the new recipient of the “Crow Award.” This fun award goes to the H.L. Lion who despite good intentions makes an error in judgment.  Lion Duane Hass (the previous recipient for the last six years) announced the new winner of the award.  The award this year goes to Lion Mike Main.  Lion Mike was the chair of our Community Appreciation Dinner back in August.  He “slightly” overestimated the amount of pork chops needed for the dinner. (He ordered 4,000!) We ended up selling the remaining pork chops that were left over.  Lion Mike indicated that he would not have this award for no more than a year.  (BEWARE HOWARD LAKE LIONS!  LION MIKE WILL BE WATCHING YOU!)

MEETINGS
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, January 3, 2002 at our regular meeting place. There will be a meal prior to this meeting.  Lions Terry and LaNette Thorson will be doing the cooking and serving that night.  The meal will be at 7:00 P.M. with the business meeting at 7:30 P.M.

Our second meeting will be on Thursday, January 17, 2002 also at our regular meeting place.  There will be a Board of Directors meeting at 6:30 P.M.  There will be a meal on this night also.  The meal will be cooked and served by Lion Mike Main.  The meal will be at 7:00 P.M. with the business meeting at 7:30 P.M.

CONVENTION NEWS
The Mid-Winter Convention will be held at the Marriott in Bloomington on January 18, 19, and 20, 2002.  Rooms are $78.75 per reservation.  When making your reservations, you must pay either by check or credit card.  Also, if you are rooming with someone, please specify which type of room you prefer (double beds, king-sized bed, or nor preference & smoking, non-smoking, or no preference).  If you want to attend and make room reservations, you can still contact Lion Joyce Thorson.  She will then call the Marriott for any additional reservations.

If you attend the Gambling seminar on the Friday afternoon of the convention, the club will pay for your room on that Friday night plus one meal and mileage.

Also, you can purchase a meal book for $50 per person if ordered before December 31, 2001.  If you purchase one after Dec. 31st, price goes up to $53 per person.  The meal books will not be sold at the convention.

You may also purchase single meals instead of a meal book.  The cost of each meal is as follows: Saturday Luncheon--$14; Governor’s Banquet--$23.25; and Sunday Brunch--$14.  Just like the meal book, the price of the individual meals goes up $1 per meal if ordered after Dec. 31st.  There will also a Melvin Jones breakfast on the Saturday morning of the convention.  (This is for the Melvin Jones recipients only.)  The cost of the breakfast is $13 per person.  You can order your meals for the convention by contacting Lion Joyce Thorson at one of the meetings in December or by calling (763-658-2012).
