THANK YOU
Thanks to Lions Terry and LaNette Thorson for the excellent meal at our January 4th meeting . Also, thanks to the members who brought food for our potluck meal at our January 18th meeting.
MEETINGS
Our first meeting this month will be held on Thursday, February 1st at our new Lions hall . Lions Darrell and Nancy Main will be cooking at this meeting. The meal will be at 7:00 PM and the business meeting will take place at 7:30 PM. At this meeting, we will be making a decision on the fate of our gambling operation. All members are strongly encouraged to attend. Also, we will be having a guest speaker. Lion Cliff Welte will be speaking on women’s membership.
Our second meeting will be take place on Thursday, February 15th at our new meeting place. There will be a Board of Directors meeting at 6:30 P.M. So far, no one has volunteered to cook for this meeting. If there is no meal the meeting will be at 7:00 PM. If you are interested in cooking for this meeting, please let Lion Steve know by February 1st .
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Our club will be sponsoring two pancake breakfasts. The first one will be on Sunday, February 11th at our new meeting place. The hours are scheduled to be from 8:00 AM until noon. The second one will be on Sunday, April 1st (Palm Sunday).
Our annual Easter Egg Hunt will take place on Saturday, April 7th at Memorial Park in Howard Lake. We need a chairperson for this event.
Good Neighbor Days will take place this year from June 22-24.
The 6th Annual H.L. Lions Golf Tournament will take place at Shadowbrook Golf Course on Saturday , July 14th. This year there will be a pork chop dinner following the tournament.
HOFFMAN CONCERT
The Bruce Hoffman concert is definitely scheduled for Sunday, February 18th. Like last year, there will be two shows. The first show will be at 2:00 PM with the second show at 7:00 PM. The cost of the tickets will be $20 per person at the door and $18 in advance. Tickets are available at Joe’s Sport Shop, Grandpa Ittel’s Meats, and the HL Drug Store.MIDWINTER CONVENTION
The 29th Annual Midwinter Convention for District 5M7 was held January 19-21, 2007 at the Marriott in Bloomington. We sent four delegates to the convention this year. They were Lions Nancy Main, Tom and Karen Fiecke, and Steve Weber.
Our newly elected District Governor for 2007-08 is Lion Mary Ellen Storley. She becomes the first woman to serve as District Governor in District 5M7. Her theme for her upcoming term will be “Courage to Change.” Our newly elected Vice-District Governor is Jim Mulroy from the Elk River Lions.
We had one winner from our club in the Drug Poster Contest at this year‘s convention. Kaitlyn Marschel, a second grader from St. James Lutheran School in HL, was the winner in the 2nd Grade division. We had three other posters from our club that came close to winning also.
We also had a winner in the Peace Poster Contest at the convention. The winner was Alanya Karas, a sixth grader at HLWW Middle School.BIRTHDAYS
Happy birthday to all the Howard Lake Lion members who are celebrating their birthdays in February: Gary Hagemann and Jill Zurawski (2); Erin Judd (7); Bernie Rohling (23); Dan Oestreich (24); and Debbie McAlpine (27).
