CONVENTION NEWS
Approximately 20 members of our club attended the  Mid-Winter Convention
this year.  A good time was had by all.  A big thank you to Lion Joyce for
chairing it.

At the convention, the election of our new District Governor and
Vice-District Governor took place.  Our newly elected District Governor for
2002-03 will be Gary Johnson of the Buffalo Lions Club.  The new
Vice-District Governor will be Lion Kevin Schuldt of the St. Francis Lions
Club.  Congratulations!

BOWLING PARTY
Our Lions club will once again have our annual bowling party at the Park
Tavern and Lanes on Saturday, April 6th from 2:00 - 5:00 P.M.  This was the
result of raising the most money (as a club) at the Heel-n-Wheel fundraiser
back in September.  We will also be going to Mystic Lake Casino immediately
following the bowling party.

All H. L. Lion members are strongly encouraged to invite family and friends
to come along.  Sign-up sheets will be available at each meeting through
March. Sign-up is on a first come first serve basis. We are allowed to bring
up to sixty people. Lion Steve Weber is the chairman.  If you cannot attend
any of the upcoming meetings and want to go along, please contact Lion Steve
at 543-3567 (H) or 3471 (W).

Our mode of transportation will be the SW Bus Company from Willmar.  The
cost of the bus ride will be approximately $15 per person (depending on the
number of people going).  We will be leaving H.L. at 12:45 P.M. (Block 18)
at 12:45 P.M.  We will then leave the Park Tavern for Mystic Lake at
approximately 5:30 P.M.  We should arrive back to Howard Lake at around
11:00 P.M.

DONATIONS
A donation was to the Parade of Green.  The money was divided up to the
following:  Children's Eye Clinic, Camp New Hope, 5M7 Wellness Van, 5M7
Hearing Foundation, Camp Friendship, Leader Dog for the Blind, Camp
Needlepoint, and MAC Center.

RADAR RUN
The Howard Lake Lions will be sponsoring a snowmobile radar run on Howard
Lake on Saturday, February 16th from 10:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M.  Lion Mike
Main is the overall chairman of this event.  Any help with this event will
be much appreciated.  We are also looking for a member to chair the food and
for taking tickets that day.  If interested, please let Lion Mike or Lion
President Dan Judd know by the first meeting in February.

SUPER BOWL PARTY
Our club will be having their annual Super Bowl party on Sunday, February
3rd at 3 :00 P.M. at our regular meeting place.  This will be a potluck
affair.  All Lions and their family/guests are invited.

WANTED: MORE LIONS PROJECTS
At our last meeting in January, a very disturbing fact came up.  Recently,
we, the Howard Lake Lions, have been involved in very few projects involving
the community.  It's a trend that needs to be stopped.  We have become too
complacent.  If you have any ideas for a project, please bring them along to
one of our upcoming meetings.  LET'S GET INVOLVED!

POSTER CONTEST
The Howard Lake Lions and Lionesses held their annual Drug Awareness Poster
Contest.  The contest was open to students in the HLWW school district and
also students at St. James Lutheran School.  The judging took place on Jan.
10th.  The first place in each of the age divisions had their posters judged
at the Mid-Winter Convention.  The top three winners in five separate age
divisions were as follows:

Kindergarten:       *Cord Allen (St. James Luth. School)
Josiah Rostad (St. James Luth. School)
Maddi Merges (St. James Luth. School)

Grades 1 & 2: Brooke Baird (St. James Luth. School)
Michaela Bowman (St. James Luth. School)
Kayla Stueven (St. James Luth. School)

Grades 3 & 4: Brooke Kubasch (St. James Luth. School)
Ellie Wessling (St. James Luth. School)

Grades 6-8: Dessie Roll (St. James Luth. School)

*We had good news at the Convention this year!  Cord Allen, son of Dave and
Beverly Allen of Howard Lake, took first place in the Kindergarten division
at the district level.  Cord attends Kindergarten at St. James Lutheran
School.  Cord's teacher is Mrs. Marge Stueven.

BIRTHDAYS
Happy birthday to the following Howard Lake Lion members who will be
celebrating a birthday in February:  Gary Hagemann (2); Tammy Rienke (4);
Shelly Reddemann (7); Erin Judd (12); Bernie Rohling (23); and Dan Oestreich
(23).

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
At our January 3rd meeting, Lion President Dan Judd already broke his
promise about hanging on to his gavel at our club meetings.  It seemed to
have mysteriously disappeared during the meal.  However, it suddenly
appeared following tail-twisting.  What are we going to do with you Lion
Dan?

Finally, a Lions' Convention question:  WHO'S GOT MILK?
